Who will ever forget victory gardens, ration books, meatless meals, or those wartime shortages? Certainly none of us who lived through them. Cooking was not a matter of taking dinner out of the freezer and popping it in the microwaves for two minutes. It often meant growing the food, canning the food and then preparing it. All of this while trying to not just balance the food budget, but also put the most nutritious meals on the table using “point saving menus.” What a job! Our book will highlight many of the favorite and popular recipes during World War II years.

If you enjoy historical cookbooks, this is really good. Some recipes are suitable for today, some are simply interesting in looking at what our mothers and grandmothers managed to do during the time of rationing. I enjoy reading about the home front in World War II and I really enjoyed this. There were some typos that were distracting, but mostly this was a fascinating book.Product details

Cooking On The Home Front Favorite Recipes Of The World War II Years eBook Gowan Judy Reviews
The book has some decent recipes but I was a bit disappointed to find editing errors. The recipes are still readable and usable despite this. A few recipes would be unclear for beginner cooks. Telling someone to grate corn cobs vs grating the corn off the cobs are two different directions. The first was said. A newbie would grate the cobs.
The recipes are great. I like the ideas contained here and will be trying them. These recipes can be a benefit for those seeking frugal meals.
This little cookbook contains so many recipes I remember and loved from childhood. If you have more books like this, Daisy Publishing, keep 'em coming for the !
Now I know where that recipe of my Grandmother came from. I wish it would go back.
These recipes are like what I grew up on and I love them. They are authentic and very good!! If you have a chance, buy it!
Pretty basic. No frills. Just recipes from ww2 era. Interesting quick read. Gave me several meatless meal ideas. No processed food present.
